When I started the Know Yourself Coaching I felt drained and very down. I was still recovering from a burnout I’d gotten when trying to complete a PhD dissertation two years earlier. I was a new mother to a young toddler, and in addition I was desperately searching for work to make our financial situation easier. I sought help from a coach because I couldn’t see a way forward anymore — I was completely stuck.
When I met Dominique I felt an instant click. Only in the introductory session we touched on so many key issues that had been buried. I really valued that fact that she, too, had experienced burnout in an academic environment, and could identify from personal experience with what had happened.
I expected the course to be quite work-orientated, and give some tips on how to market myself. In the end, it went so much deeper. I identified some blocks that have been holding me back for years, and was able to take concrete steps to resolve them. I learnt to recognise and work with the critical voices in my head so it didn’t feel like I was at war with myself all the time. And most importantly, I learn to value who I am and what I bring. The result is that I’m left feeling joyful and powerful, and I now have a clear vision for what I want to achieve in my career.
Dominique creates a space to very safely explore painful experiences and ways of being. She’s supportive and respectful and extremely insightful. Somehow, she manages to get to the heart of whatever the issue is with grace, and deceptive ease. I loved that the course also engages with emotions and bodily sensations, and not only with mental processes/rational thinking. Dominique was very receptive to what I wanted to explore, and I felt that the work went at a perfect pace.
I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to do this course. It’s been immeasurably valuable. – Sara (former PhD candidate)
